As 2023 begins, here I share the secret of how I do custom designing of artisanal clothing.
- The first step is research. I spend a lot of time doing research. Take help from google, do market visit, attend handicraft exhibitions and gather as much information as possible. The knowledge of what’s running in the market helps you launch something unique and promising product.
- Take inspiration from past customer inquiries as well. Your clients are your biggest source of inspiration. Their requirements will help you launch the right product. Study them well. Thorough research will help you launch the right product.
- The third most important part is choosing the right color scheme for the product. Color palettes can make or break the collection. It’s only a keen observer who tends to launch the perfect color with the right balance of the design pattern. Never go ahead when in doubt. Choose wisely!
- If you feel exhausted in the process and get creative block just take a break, go for a nature walk or do something to rejuvenate and come back. I bet, you will get the desired result. It’s definitely challenging but that’s the exciting part about being a designer. Overthinking can lead to creative block. Just give yourself a break, go for a nature walk, or do something that freshens you up. Meditation isn’t a bad idea either. Try working again, no procrastination. Just finish the work and reward yourself.
- While creating a product or collection there are a lot of technical aspects involved in addition to the creative aspect of it. The functional aspect and comfort need equal weightage. Any design with an impractical approach can look good but it can never make the client feel good after wearing it. A stronghold on fabric quality, deep knowledge of design history, and expertise in surface treatment lead to a successful design.
